What to Do at Disney's Aulani Resort

What to Do at Disney's Aulani Resort

The island of Oahu has so many great adventures that my family and I have experienced in our vacations there but Disney Aulani was something special. From reef snorkeling, to dance parties with Goofy, and paddleboarding on the beach, the fun never stopped! Here’s some info on some of my favorite things that we did on our Aulani vacation.

Rainbow Reef Snorkeling

When my family goes to Hawaii, we always love to find little, hidden snorkeling spots where we can dive in to experience the beauty of Hawaii’s reef. But being at Aulani, we didn’t have to go very far to find a great spot to see some beautiful tropical fish. Right behind the Menehune bridge is the Rainbow Reef where you can rent snorkeling gear and swim in the resort’s manmade reef. You can either renting for one time or for your entire stay at the resort. The best part is the chance to feed the fish with the help of a Mickey Mouse ring with a live audience from the clear window on the edge of the reef! So if you want to experience some good snorkeling and wave to your jealous family and friends, head on over to the Rainbow Reef!

The Beach: Paddle board, Boogie Board, Sand Toy Rentals

Hawaii is synonymous with its beautiful, fun beaches that provide a great fun day in the sun and at Aulani you can experience all of that plus awesome beach toys for rent! Out on the beach lagoon, there is a rentals hut that has everything from boogie boards to sand toys to help you make those perfect, golden sandcastles. Another bonus is the opportunity to rent stand-up paddle boards to glide across the lagoon which are my personal favorite!

Auntie’s Beach House

Disney is famous for making family-friendly experiences and adventures but sometimes the kids just want to go off and have their own fun. Auntie’s Beach House is the place to send those littles for some fun of their own. Now not being young enough to actually go into Auntie’s Beach House (DANG IT!), I am not the best expert as to what happens in there but our family friend’s little kids were obsessed with it! Every morning when they woke up, they could not wait to go over to the Beach House for some fun! From visits from Minnie, Mickey, and Stitch, to making slime, and playing video games, your kids will love spending time with Auntie at her beach house!

Pools, Slides, Lazy River & Dance Party with Goofy

Disney resort pools are the BEST for lazy rivers, fun slides, hidden Disney touches, and at Disney Aulani, dance party games with Goofy are also in the mix! That’s right you read that right! Goofy, in his fun beach gear, busts a move and shows us how to party the Hawaiian way! Aulani has two slides, one body slide and one tube slide but both are TONS of fun!

 Movies and Games for Rent

After a fun day in the sun, sometimes it’s nice to just sit in your hotel room and chill out while nursing your sunburn. Luckily, Disney has got you covered with DVDs and board/card games to play with your family for a fun game night in. Just head down to the activity center for rentals for the night in!

Menehune Hunt

All around the resort you may notice little carved wooden men in peculiar places. Those are called the Menehune and are an ancient Hawaiian symbol of mischief and playfulness. If you ever want a low-key activity out of the sun, go on a hunt to see how many of these mischievous little guys you can spot hanging around the resort! Hint: a lot of them are hanging around the Menehune Bridge slides!

Disney Characters Meet and Greet

Like all Disney property, characters are a main staple for meet and greets and Aulani is no exception. Some of your favorite pals may be roaming around the resort at different times like Moana, Lilo and Stitch, Mickey and Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Jack Sparrow, Donald and Daisy, and others. So be sure to keep a look out for your favorite Disney friends in their cute Hawaiian wear and snag a picture for all your envious friends and family!

Movie Night on the Lawn

One of my favorite things about beaches is the opportunity to sit under the stars at night and hear the waves rush onto the shore. Well at Aulani you can do that AND watch Disney movies on a big screen! How awesome is that? On most nights, Aulani shows Disney movies on a projected screen on their back lawn around dusk. While we were there, some of the featured movies were Finding Dory and Moana! We were also especially lucky because our balcony faced right out to the lawn so we could watch the movie from our hotel room!

Last but not least, a trip to Hawaii wouldn’t be complete without experience an authentic Hawaiian luau with all its dances, chants, and delicious food! And who does great entertainment and food better than Disney! Aulani’s luau is held on certain nights on the back lawn where the movies are shown and feature acts from fire dancers to hulu girls and everything else in between!

So whatever you decide to do at Disney’s Aulani, magic, fun, and adventure will follow! All you have to do is choose what to do next!
