Disneyland’s Club 33: What It's Really Like
Editors Note: Kat visited Club 33 several years ago. It is likely that things have changed since then. She just wanted to share her experience with you!
When Walt Disney was making the plans for his little corner of New Orleans in Disneyland Park, he wanted a private place where he could entertain VIPs or other important dignitaries and be away from the hustle and bustle of the park below. That dream became Club 33, which was one of the best kept secrets in all of Disneyland.
I remember the first time I discovered this hidden spot right in the middle of New Orleans Square and being so excited to find it on our next trip to Disneyland. Since I first laid eyes on that forbidden, closed door, I longed for the chance to go inside and experience a place purely from the mind of Uncle Walt. Then when I was a freshman in college, I finally got that chance with the help of some pixie dust and a family friend of ours! Even though it was been a couple of years since we were able to walk through that forbidden door into Club 33, I still remember like it was yesterday and want to share our experience with you! Just bear in mind, it might have changed in the years since I went!
How To Get In
For those that don’t know, Club 33 is an exclusive, high-end restaurant for members only in the heart of New Orleans Square. Today it has a new entrance but when I went, the only way in was through a blue door with a big 33 sign next to it. You have to be a member or know someone who is a member in order to make a reservation. Now before you start whipping out your credit card to call and become a member, just know that memberships are pretty pricey and come with strict rules and regulations for what times you can go in. We were only able to get in because a family friend of ours works for a company that has a membership and gives out reservations to employees at specific times a year. Even then, we were only allowed to go on certain days and times. So very exclusive! Again, the rules and restrictions might have changed now but Club 33 is still just as private as ever.
If you somehow manage to either become a member or call in a favor with a friend who is a member already, then get ready to enter an atmosphere that transports you to another time of posh elegance & tasteful style. In the old entrance, you were buzzed in through the door and greeted by a host or hostess who then escorts you upstairs to the dining room either by stairs or old antique elevator which we rode in! You are then seating in one of 3 dining rooms (again might be different today) where you are treated to fine dining from a 5 star restaurant but more of that below. As you look around you will see plush damask curtains, glass chandeliers, and artwork with an antique piano that were all picked out by Lillian Disney herself. The atmosphere really does make you sit up a little taller and eat with more delicate bites. Even the bathrooms scream elegance! In the back of one of the dining rooms, called the Trophy Room, sits a now-silent Auto-Animatronic vulture that actually used to talk with guests through using microphones installed in the chandeliers. Think Turtle Time with Crush but with a vulture! Everything about the atmosphere in Club 33 makes you remember that you are in specific place that very few get to experience which makes it all the more special & unforgettable.
Don’t let the name Club 33 deceive you because this is a full service, 5-star restaurant that takes your taste buds on a journey! Everything on the menu is locally sourced and hand prepared by the brilliant chefs in the kitchen. Again imagine a very nice, fancy restaurant and you can get a glimpse into what kind of food they have. I remember everything we ate was fresh, well-cooked, well-seasoned and absolutely delicious. To top it all off, for dessert we had access to a dessert bar with yummy treats like lemon cookies with icing, cream puff, tarts, and cupcakes that were as fluffy and decadent as you can imagine! Every about our meal was so good that I wish I had a bigger stomach!
If you ever get the opportunity to go behind Club 33’s private entrance, do not pass up the amazing chance to get away from the craziness of the parks and allow Uncle Walt to entertain & host you in a place that is truly one of kind!
