Shanghai Disneyland 101: FastPasses

Shanghai Disneyland 101: FastPasses

Traveling to Shanghai Disneyland can be overwhelming if you don’t know what you are doing. The large crowds, the foreign culture, and the massive park are all a lot to take in. To top it off, the rides generally have very long lines.

To remove some of the stress and frustration, and just enjoy your “once-in-a-lifetime” trip, we recommend purchasing the Premier Access Pass. It’s the Shanghai version of FastPasses. I’ve personally used it and LOVED it.

I visited the park within the first year of opening, so things were a little different than they are now. When I was there, the park had a paper version of the Premier Access Pass. We had to take a picture with an employee that had to be used when redeeming each FastPass, since the Premier Access Pass is non-transferrable.

Now, the passes are available for purchase on the park’s app*. Other than that, there are not too many differences. You still get FastPasses to all the major rides, including the Shanghai original rides, TRON and the high tech Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

*Side note: I do not know if the paper version of FastPasses are still available in the parks, but if they are, you are sure to have a bunch of aggressive outside vendors that some how get their hands on FastPasses and sell them in and outside the park. I DO NOT recommend purchasing FastPasses from them at all. They may entice you with cheaper prices, but a many of them do not sell valid passes, and it is hard to tell the difference. It’s just not worth it.

The major benefit to the Premier passes is their flexibility. All free FastPasses in the park have the traditional one-hour window to use them. The Premier Access pass can be redeemed any time the ride is open, so you can move around the park at your own leisure, without the stress of missing your FastPasses.

I think everyone should get the paid version of FastPasses, or the Premier Access pass, because going to Shanghai Disneyland is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  Non-paid versions of FastPasses are available, but it can be very difficult to obtain the FastPasses you want and need with the large crowds. If you have the opportunity to go, I personally feel that it’s not worth taking the risk of missing out on attractions because you spend all your time in the line queue.

Here's what you need to know about "the Premier Access Pass"

Purchasing the Premier Access Pass and park tickets are separate. We recommend purchasing your park tickets in advance from the Shanghai Disney Resort website or app. Tickets are available for purchase up to a month before your visit. This is one of the only Disney parks that limit their daily ticket sales, so make sure to plan ahead!

You can only purchase the Premier Access Pass the day of your park visit, and it can sell out quickly. It is only available for purchase when you are inside the park. That’s one reason why it’s good to get to the park right at opening!

Currently you can purchase the pass on your phone, on the Shanghai Disneyland app. Make sure to have it downloaded on your phone before you get to the park, just in case your international phone service is slow. Follow the instructions on the Shanghai Disney website to purchase your FastPasses. The link is here.

When purchasing the Premier Access Pass, there are two options. You can purchase them as a package or for individual rides. If it is your first visit, we recommend purchasing the entire package. It is cheaper per ride, and it gives you the opportunity to visit 9 attractions without the long lines. On your second day, you can then decide if you want to purchase the entire package again, or if you want to just buy the FastPasses for your favorite rides. I would personally buy the entire package each day, but it’s up to you.

The FastPasses are available for the following rides:

  • Soaring Over the Horizon (Shanghai’s version of Soarin')

  • Roaring Rapids

  • TRON

  • Peter Pan’s Flight

  • Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue

  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

  • Pirates of the Caribbean Battle for the Sunken Treasure

  • Rex’s Racer

I really enjoyed the TRON, Pirates, Soaring, Peter Pan, and Buzz Lightyear rides. (The Buzz Lightyear ride is an updated, better version than what we have in the states! It is so fun!) If I were to purchase those rides individually, the cost would be very close to buying the entire package…and can sometimes cost more on peak days. That is why I say buying the entire package each day can be worth it.

When you go to use the FastPass, simply follow the steps that you received when you purchased them. If you have any problems when trying to purchase them, go to Guest Services and they can assist you in purchasing your FastPasses.

If you have any questions about the Premier Access Pass, let us know in the comments below. We want you to have the best experience at Shanghai Disney Resort, and we are happy to help out in any way we can!
