Best Disney Halloween Movies
Halloween is such a fun time of year with the pretty fall colors, the spooky decorations, and so many pumpkin flavored things EVERYWHERE! Another fun part of Halloween in my opinion is all of the Halloween events like haunted houses, pumpkin patches, and corn mazes that you can go to and the Halloween movies that you can watch! I will just say right now that I am NOT a scary movie person. It just never has been my favorite movie genre to watch. But luckily, Disney offers an opportunity to watch Halloween movies that don’t have me afraid to go around a dark corner at night! There are a couple of my favorite Halloween Disney movies that in my opinion, still offer that spooky Halloween feeling without making me scream in terror.
Okay, you knew this one was going to be on the list, didn’t you? Hocus Pocus is easily one of my favorite Disney Halloween movies for the simple reason that it is one of the funniest Halloween movies. The Sanderson sisters are the perfect combination of wicked and hilarious that have me laughing all night and trying to perfect my own version of their stalking walk as they roam the streets of Salem looking for children. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the fact that I have had a crush on human Thackery Binx since I was younger! I mean come on! So if you’re looking for a fun family movie with hilarious jokes, go watch Hocus Pocus! But be careful Winifred doesn’t put a spell on you.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
This is by far one of my favorite Halloween movies but it’s even better because it can also be a Christmas movie too! The way that Tim Burton seamlessly transitions over from Halloween to Christmas and adds beautiful songs and scenery at the same time is beyond me! The story of Jack Skellington with his faithful friends Zero and Sally, and the eclectic citizens of Halloweentown is one of self-discovery, magic, and the reminder that sometimes you don’t need to do something drastic to find happiness where you are. The songs of this movie are just to “die” for as they feature a perfect blend of spooky and jolliness. And as a plus, you can watch this movie AGAIN for Christmas! So two movies for the price of one!
As a child who grew up during the golden age of Disney Channel Original Movies, Halloweentown will always have a special place in my heart! This movie follows the story of Marnie and her siblings, as they discover that they actually are a family of witches with magical powers. As they long to know more about their heritage, they follow their grandmother to her home in Halloweentown, where all the creatures of the night live in harmony together. As they uncover the secrets of their magic and of Halloweentown, they also learn that the bond of family is one of the world’s most powerful magic spells against evil. Hands down, a perfect family movie to cuddle up with some caramel popcorn and candy corn!
Tower of Terror
Finally, this movie is one that not many people know about but, in my opinion, is still one of the spookiest Halloween movies out there that does have its share of creepy moments and chills. Based on the attraction, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, this movie uncovers the story of what really happened that night in Hollywood, 1939. With a young Kirsten Dunst leading as the inquisitive niece of a newspaper reporter, they both discover what happened to the 5 people trapped in the elevator that supposedly disappeared into the Twilight Zone. If you are looking for a family friendly movie with just the right amount of creepiness that isn’t going to send you home with nightmares, then look now further than Tower of Terror. But be careful to not go looking for a deserted hotel on the dark side of Hollywood!
